Thomas “Tim” F. McCarthy III passed away on June 15, 2022 at his home. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on Oct 13, 1941. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. McCarthy Jr. and Beatrice Mills McCarthy, his brothers, William Terrance “Terry” McCarthy and Michael J. “Mickey” McCarthy and his sister-in-law Maryann McCarthy. He is survived by his Goddaughters, Carolyn Carona-Ireland and Jennifer Pendleton Macdonald, and by many cousins and second cousins.
Tim graduated from Jesuit High School in New Orleans. After graduation, he attended two years of college before serving in the Navy for 4 years as a medic He was honorably discharged as a 2nd Class Corpsman in 1967. Upon returning home, Tim went to work at his family’s business, Robertson’s Welding Service, where he worked until the business closed. Tim then used his expertise in welding and construction to perform welding and steel inspections for Delta Testing and Inspection until retirement.
Tim was a friendly, kind and joyful person who loved spending time with his family, extended family and his friends. He was devoted to his family, working alongside his father and brother, and caring for his mother after his father passed away.
Tim had a lifelong love for learning and was an avid reader of books, especially books about science, biology, astronomy, and the universe. Later in life, Tim also greatly enjoyed educating children about varied animals and insects during his many years serving as a volunteer at the New Orleans Audubon Zoo.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and support staff at Touro Heart and Vascular Care and Cardiac Outpatient Rehab for all of the caring and support they provided to Tim during the last few years.
A visitation will be held at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home on Friday, July 22, at 12:00 PM followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at 2:30 PM at Lakelawn Cemetery.
