Sylvia passed away on Wednesday night, May 4th, with her two
daughters at her side. She was 99 years and 9 months, born on July 26, 1917 in San Antonio,
Texas. She moved to Corpus Christi as a child in 1925. She married Julius Marks Rosenberg in
She is survived by three children, Nancy Rosenberg Kancher (Allan), Leona Rosenberg Stich,
and Ray Berman Rosenberg (Briarcliff, TX). She is Mamoo to her four grandchildren, Dori
Kancher Cush (Chris), Allison Kancher Mock (Charley), Mark Stich (Ashley), and Steve Stich
(Erin). And, two step-grandsons, Chase and Colin Butschek (Katlyn). Mamoo has three great
grandchildren, Jack Mock, Ellie Mock, and Rosemary Cush. Also, her two nieces, Ruthie Simon
Freedman (Louis), Ann Rosenberg and nephew, Robert Rosenberg (Crystal).
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband in 1991 after more than fifty years, her parents, Dora
and Eli Berman, her sister, Lucille Berman Simon, her son-in-law, Ralph Stich, daughter-in-law,
Karen Rosenberg, and nephew, Neill Simon (Alice).
She had a very happy life in Corpus Christi with many good friends. She was a volunteer at
Driscoll Children's Hospital, a Girl Scout leader for special needs girls, Jewish Community
Center, the Art Museum of South Texas, and the oldest Cub Scout den mother at that time in
Corpus. She was an active member of Hadassah, Temple Beth El, and Temple Beth El
Sisterhood. She was in the first confirmation class of Temple Beth El. She frequently modeled
for style shows and enjoyed painting for many years. We enjoy having her art work in our
In 2004 at age 87, she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, the birthplace of her husband, where
her two daughters live. She quickly made new friends, and enjoyed exercise classes and
programs at the JCC. She drove her car safely until she decided at 96 to give it up. She walked
her dog, Shadow, uptown around her block every day making friends with all the neighbors who
were so nice to her. She out-lived most of her longtime friends, but made many new dear
friends much younger than her that loved her and many called her Mamoo. She lived a happy
long life, grateful for who she had in her life and who she met along the way.

her sitter, Celina Guerrero.
Graveside services will be held at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, TX on
Wednesday, May 10th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the JCC Uptown Seniors Program, 5342 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA 70115 or the charity of your choice..
