Orval “Erby” Monroe Kalb Jr. Born 12/23/1946 in New Orleans, La to Mae Triche Kalb and Orval M. Kalb Sr. He passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Baton Rouge, LA after a courageous battle at the age of 74. He was the eldest child of his parents. Erby was drafted to Vietnam for the army in 1966.Where he proudly served in the 1st Battalion 16th Infantry Army Rangers known as “Big Red #1. While stationed in Vietnam he was awarded the Purple Heart and 2 Bronze Stars for his Service. When he came home he married the love of his life and soulmate Susan Alford. They were married for 51 years. Together they had a marriage that most people looked up to for inspiration. They enjoyed fishing, bowling, shrimping and crabbing together and spending time with family. Together they were blessed with 3 children that were the light of his life Kelly, Kristy and Kirby. They were Gods greatest gift to him. He was later blessed with his favorite title Grandpaw to Luke. He was is his heart. Even though his life is done with us here, our memories of him will live on with us forever. He is survived by his Wife Susan A. Kalb, Daughters Kelly Mae Kalb and Kristy Kalb Saltaformaggio. Son in-law Jeremy Saltaformaggio. Grandson Luke Kirby Saltaformaggio. Siblings Barry (Judy), Bonnie (Cliff), Sidney (Dawn) and brother-in-laws Henry Alford and Rodney Lange. Aunt Rosie Timothy, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He’s preceded in death by his parents Mae and Orval Sr., infant sister Caroline and his beloved son Kirby M. Kalb. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. Metairie, LA 70001 on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in Hope Mausoleum, New Orleans.
