LEITHA M GALLICIOMarch 12, 1933 ~ February 20, 2018 (age 84)
LEITHA MAE GALLICIO passed away peacefully on February 20, 2018 of heart disease at age 84. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Olivia Serio Gallicio, and her grandparents, Rosa and Salvador Serio. Leitha was part of a large, lively and close-knit Sicilian family with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who lived in the French Quarter, the Ninth Ward and Mid City neighborhoods of New Orleans. She is survived by many, including her dearest cousins, Carmela Jennings, Connie Brocato, Josie Mathes and Barbara Johnson. Cousins Rosemary Alessi and Rosalie Arena and lifelong friend, Gerry Almerico, predeceased her. She was the Godmother of Michael Alessi and Stacy Johnson.
A 1950 graduate of John McDonogh High School, she kept in touch with her classmates for many years via school reunions and trips to the beach. After working for Whitney Bank for a number of years, she attended Delgado for drafting and spent many years as a draftsman in the oil and gas industry.
Armed with a larger-than-life personality, Leitha was a force to be reckoned with! She had many interests including building desktop computers, cooking, fishing, playing cards, shopping for electronic gadgets, and taking road trips to Beaumont, Texas to visit her cousins. She loved attending plays at The Beverly Dinner Playhouse and treasured her friendship with then proprietor, Storer Boone.
Leitha made friends easily with people from all walks of life. She helped a lot of family and friends along the way to find jobs, negotiate mortgages, and recently assisted her neighbors in attaining U.S. citizenship. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Thanks and appreciation to her cousins, Greta Johnson and Nicole Johnson for their loving support especially during her illness, and to Greg Sacco for helping her post-Katrina and beyond, as well as dear friends Camille Danna, Debbie Williams and Lena and Lisa of Angelo’s Bakery with whom she loved spending time.
