John P. Hemmingway passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021. He was a native of Monticello, M.S. and a resident of Harahan, L.A. for 45 years. Loving husband of 59 years to Sandra King Hemmingway. Caring father of Lisa Hemmingway, Jan Clomburg (Alan) and Julie Naquin (Derwin). Grandfather of Ashley McMillan (Tommy), Cherie Hughes (Darrell), Alan Clomburg, Jr., Brittany Guillory (Grant) and Nicholas Naquin. Great grandfather of Ava, Brooklyn, Addison, Cameron, Brady, Kennedi and Alan III. Son of the late Mary Lee McDavid. Johnny was a member of Silver Trotters, Harahan Coffee Club and a volunteer for St. Rita’s Food Bank. He later retired from 1-800-Radiators. Johnny was very loved by his family. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, especially working in his garden, taking his daily ride to Audubon Park and sitting by the water watching the barges pass by. He was known as “The Jambalaya King” and he enjoyed making his famous dish for all special occasions. Johnny will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His beautiful and peaceful smile will never be forgotten. Relatives and friend are invited to attend a memorial gathering at St. Rita Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy. Harahan, on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Followed by a memorial mass. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers masses preferred. Mask are required.
