Debra Elizabeth Bourgeois, born February 6, 1963, met Jesus on June 7, 2018 after a valiant battle with breast cancer.
Debbie, daughter of Marrietta Womack Duncan and the late H.B. Bourgeois Jr., leaves behind a son, Jordan Liuzza, siblings Julie Otillio (husband Joe), Ben Bourgeois, David Bourgeois (wife Barbara), Daryl Bourgeois (wife Melissa), and several cherished nieces, nephews, aunt, uncle and cousins. Debbie was a woman who lived to serve others. “The bible says that everyone is uniquely and wonderfully made and that everyone has a purpose in life. I have a need to serve others and by serving them, I am filling my purpose,” said Debbie in a 2013 interview. She was heavily involved in her community for many years. Through her work with St. Charles Community Health Center, she wrote grants for non-profits including March of Dimes and Susan G. Komen. Debbie was also influential in establishing the St. Charles Parish Second Harvest Food Drive. In addition, Debbie coordinated educational classes for parents of children with ADD/ADHD through CHADD. Debbie had a long career in the legal field. For the last several years, Debbie worked for Deutsch Kerrigan LLP in New Orleans. La. Not only did she enjoy the work, but she was very fond of her coworkers, especially her boss, Richard Montgomery III. Debbie was a very artistic individual. Her creative endeavors included: interior design, hair, make-up, furniture restoration and much more. Debbie’s family members have many wonderful memories of her. She had a great sense of humor, knowing how to make anyone who came in her path smile and feel welcomed. Debbie never met a stranger. She would make friendships wherever she went. Debbie’s lifelong friends aided her journey of helping others and were always by her side with a helping hand. Debbie was known by her son’s friends as Ms. Debbie, the sports mom. Whether it was fundraising for the next tournament or cheering Jordan and his teammates in the stands, Debbie was always there. Debbie was Jordan’s number one fan. Debbie was a devoted Christian. Debbie knew her blessings came through her faith in God. She will be missed by all who have known her. The family would like to thank the many friends and caretakers that assisted Debbie through her illness. A graveside service will be held in Metairie Cemetery located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 10:00AM.
