Christine Virginia George Arnold (91 years old) passed away on October 29, 2020, at Ochsner Main Campus surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 11, 1929, in Decatur, Alabama. Wife of the late William E. Arnold. Daughter of the late Luella Vernon Cochran and Shuford William George, Sr. She is survived by her 4 children, Sharon Arnold, Stephen Arnold (Sandy), Patti Arnold Shaikewitz, and Michele Arnold Core. MawMaw, as she was called, is survived by 6 grandchildren, Timothy George Shaikewitz, Jennifer Shaikewitz Sanchez (Thomas), Robert Arnold Sullivan (Graham), George Albert Arnold (Samantha), Gregory “Vance” Core, Jr. (Mallory), and Meredith Cathryn Core. MawMaw also has 7 great-grandchildren, Anthony Michael Sanchez, Austin Matthew Sanchez, Jaxon Vance Core, Eleanor Christine Arnold, Jude George Arnold, Chloe Merri Arnold Sullivan, and Hudson Laine Core. She is survived by her sister, Betty Kane (Melvin), and 2 sister-in-laws, Eunice George and Sunnie George. Also, preceded in death by her brothers, Shuford George, Emmett George, Rudolph George and Arthell George and three sister-in-laws, Juanita Arnold Batts, Lu George and Vergie George Payne. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Chris.
Chris graduated from Valley High School in Louisville, Kentucky, before moving to the New Orleans area in 1949. She has been a resident of Destrehan, LA since 1996.
Chris was a charter member of the Krewe of Cleopatra and loved Mardi Gras immensely. She served as a Cleopatra Float Lieutenant for many years and had the privilege of being a Royal Court Jewel of the Nile in 1998 and 1999.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the ICU at Ochsner Main Campus for the compassion and excellent care of our mom.
We will always be grateful to all of our family and friends for your prayers and support during our time of loss. Our mom was loved by so many and she will always be missed dearly. A Celebration of Life for Chris will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter in memory of Christine G. Arnold.
