ANTONIO ALFANO

January 5, 1919 ~ June 9, 2018 (age 99)

By the will of God on January 5, 1919 a son was born, Antonio Alfano, to the late Giovonni Alfano and Lena Alfano. On June 9, 2018, Antonio at the age of 99 returned to God his creator. Tony, as he was known, was born in Hammond, LA and at an early age and moved to New Orleans. He was a devoted brother to the late Rose Chula Moschitta, Johnnie Chula, Josephine Alfano Guardalabene, Anna Alfano Castanedo, and Virginia Alfano Reiffel. He was also involved in the life of his late nephew, Raoul “Ju Ju” Castanedo and his wife Cheryln Castanedo. Uncle Tony will be fondly remembered at family gatherings by his nephews, nieces and great-nephews: Anthony, David, Michael, Regina, Joshua and Nicky Castanedo, Blaise Weir, Chris Castanedo and Cartier Williams. After serving in the Coast Guard for 3 years, Tony spent much of his time traveling and working throughout the United States. Tony enjoyed spending time at the Fair Grounds (he loved the race horses) so it was fitting that he passed away on the day of the Triple Crown Race at Belmont.
Through his life he made many friends who were loyal and faithful to him especially the Lamarque Ford family, Ronnie Lamarque, Timmy Lamarque, Dennis Lamarque, Tommy Lamarque, Donnie Re, Mary Rohan and Angela Ingram – Grosch. Tony worked for 23 years for Ronnie Lamarque who treated him like a father. When someone would ask Ronnie what Tony did at Lamarque Ford, Ronnie would always say “whatever he wants”. You couldn’t help loving him. He was always ready to share an interesting story with those he met. His last days were spent at St. Anthony Rehabilitation Care where he was cared for by a very capable and loving staff especially the Administration John Morvant and Miss Shasta Butler, the Social Worker.
Please join us for a last farewell to Tony on Friday, June 15, 2018 at St. Clement of Rome Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11. Inurnment to follow at St. Louis Cemetery # 3 on Esplande Ave. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Monday Night Disciples for Christian Burial for Indigent Babies 4705 Lake Como, Metairie, LA 70006.
